In this episode we are joined by Lindsay Portella who is a counselor in private practice and doctoral student at Auburn University. Her scholarship primarily focuses on student athletes and mental health. This episode’s discussion identifies some of the issue’s athletes experience regarding mental health that occur as a result of the expectations for performance placed upon them. Lindsay provides a unique perspective to this topic by incorporating her own experiences with being a college athlete alongside her experiences in the counseling profession. She delves into the implications that exist surrounding student athletes regarding identity development, transition issues, suicide, and the existential crisis that can occur following the end of an athlete’s college career.
